About …
The track that started it all. This was the song Alison demoed in Vinces apartment in November of 1981. It was released as a single on march 15th the following year. After a slow start, it started climbing the charts, topping at number two on May 22nd. Withheld from the number one spot by Eurovision winner A little Peace by German Nicole.
As popular as Only You is, the b-side has drawn even more attention. Situation is, by far, the most sampled song by Yazoo – and also the track, that has been remixed the most.
After the succes of their first single, Vince and Alison started collecting material for their debut album.
Fun fact …
- Etching in 12″ vinyl on side a: “Fabulous Eric!”, side b: “£ 400 for a rub?”.
- The accapella group Flying Pickets would do a cover the following year, taking the song to the number one spot around Christmas.
